When the cold weather hits, there’s nothing I love more than a steaming mug of cocoa. But store-bought mixes can be too sweet or artificial, so I started making my own, and now I can’t go back!

This homemade hot cocoa mix is rich, chocolatey, and can be customized to your taste. Bonus: it pairs perfectly with homemade dehydrated marshmallows for a gift that friends and family will adore.

Why I Love This Mix

  • Customizable sweetness: Adjust the sugar to taste.

  • Optional boost: Add collagen for an extra healthy touch.

  • Gifting made easy: Layer in a jar with marshmallows and tie with a festive ribbon.

Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 2 cups powdered sugar (adjust to taste)

  • 3 cups powdered milk

  • 2 cups organic cocoa powder

  • Optional: ½ cup collagen powder

Let’s Make It

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well.

  1. To serve, add 2–4 tablespoons of mix to a mug of hot milk or water.

  2. Top with marshmallows and enjoy!

Optional: Homemade Dehydrated Marshmallows

  • Spread marshmallows on a dehydrator tray.

  • Dehydrate at 135°F (57°C) for 4–6 hours until dry and crunchy.

  • Store in an airtight container to add to cocoa or for gifting.

Shelf Life

  • Stored in an airtight container at room temperature, the cocoa mix will keep 3–6 months.

  • Homemade dehydrated marshmallows also last 3–6 months when kept in a dry, airtight container.

  • For gifting, make sure the jar is sealed tightly and store away from heat or humidity to maintain freshness.

I'm never buying cocoa mix from the store again! This was so easy and yummy. I had my kid try it and he approved. I packed it in craft envelopes and added a baggie of dehydrated marshmallows to the front to give as gifts.
